Updated with the latest Employment Standards Code, Workplace Safety and Health Act & Regulations, and Workers’ Compensation Board requirements

  • 2025 Manitoba Minimum Wage$15.80/hr (effective October 1, 2024)
  • Young Worker Protections – 13–15 year-olds require a Young Worker Readiness Certificate; restricted tasks, hours (max 20 hrs/week during school), supervision and curfews apply
  • Overtime & Banked Time – 1.5× regular rate after 8 hrs/day or 40 hrs/week; with written agreement, overtime may be banked at 1 hr = 1.5 hrs, to be used within three months
  • Statutory Holidays – Nine general holidays (New Year’s Day; Louis Riel Day; Good Friday; Victoria Day; July 1; Labour Day; Orange Shirt Day; Thanksgiving; Christmas); pay and substitution rules
  • Vacation & Vacation Pay – 2 weeks’ vacation after each of first 4 years (4% pay); 3 weeks thereafter (6% pay); must be taken within 10 months, paid by first day of vacation
  • Job-Protected Leaves – 14 types (maternity, parental, family, bereavement, compassionate care, long-term illness, interpersonal violence, citizenship, critical-illness, death/disappearance of a child, reservist, organ donation, public health emergency, COVID-19 vaccination)
  • Pay Periods & Pay Statements – At least twice monthly; final pay within 10 working days of termination; statements must detail hours (regular/OT), rates, all deductions and net pay
  • Allowed Deductions – Statutory (tax, CPP, EI), union dues, court orders, agreed benefits, advances; Prohibited Deductions include interest/fees on advances, mandatory courses, equipment, uniforms, business losses
  • Workplace Safety & Health – Hazard identification & control, violence & harassment prevention, first-aid requirements, hazardous materials handling, no-smoking notice
  • Joint Health & Safety Committees & Representatives – Required in workplaces with ≥ 20 workers (committee) or 5–19 workers (rep); duties include inspections, investigations, training and recommendation powers
  • WCB Injury Reporting
    1. Report injury to your employer
    2. Seek medical attention and tell provider it’s work-related
    3. Report claim to WCB (via app, phone, online)
  • Payday Notice – Employer selects day (Mon–Sun) and schedule (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly) to post

Note: We recommend posting these notices in English and French if more than 10% of your workplace speaks French as a primary language. Dual-language posting is mandatory in federally regulated workplaces and strongly advised where there is a significant francophone workforce.
